Day of surgery
Surgery is done under local anesthesia in most cases, and you go home the same day with drops and clear instructions.
First week
Close follow-up at the clinic. With DMEK, you're asked to sleep face-up for 3-5 days to help the new corneal layer adhere.
First 3 months
Vision improves gradually — much faster with partial-thickness techniques (DMEK) than with full-thickness transplant (PKP).
3-12 months
Final result stabilizes and glasses are fitted if needed. A full-thickness PKP transplant can take up to a year to reach its best vision.
