Cataract Surgery with Dr. Ahmed Shaarawy — Shaarawy Cornea Clinic

Why choose us

International standard. Regional access.

IOL chosen for your visual lifestyle

Office worker, professional driver, golfer, scuba diver — each lifestyle profile matches a different IOL. We map your visual habits before recommending a lens.

Cornea + cataract together

If you have Fuchs dystrophy, prior LASIK, keratoconus, or a previous corneal transplant, cataract surgery becomes more complex. Dr. Shaarawy is a sub-specialist in both fields.

Premium IOLs from Alcon, J&J, Zeiss

We import IOLs directly from the manufacturer with full traceability. EDOF, trifocal, and toric platforms all available — including the latest designs.

Insurance reports for international patients

We issue detailed clinical reports in English for international insurance providers. Many policies cover at least the monofocal portion of the cost.

Common questions

Frequently asked.

How long does cataract surgery take?
About 15–20 minutes per eye, performed under topical anesthetic eye drops. You'll be in the clinic for 2–3 hours total including pre-op preparation and post-op observation. No overnight stay required.
When does vision return to normal?
Most patients notice clearer vision within 24 hours. Full visual stability takes 2–4 weeks as the eye fully heals. With a premium IOL, neuro-adaptation to the new lens may take 1–3 months.
Can I have both eyes done in the same session?
Standard practice is to operate on one eye, then the second eye 1–2 weeks later. This lets us monitor the first eye's response and use any refinement learned for the second IOL choice. For travelers with limited time, same-day bilateral cataract surgery is possible after careful pre-op evaluation.
Will I need glasses after surgery?
It depends on the IOL. Monofocal IOLs typically need reading glasses. EDOF gives good distance + intermediate vision, often eliminating glasses for most daily tasks. Multifocal/trifocal IOLs target full glasses-independence (distance + near).
Is private insurance accepted?
Yes. Many Egyptian and international private insurance plans cover cataract surgery in part or in full. We issue detailed reports in English and can pre-coordinate with your insurer before surgery.
I had LASIK 15 years ago — can I still get a premium IOL?
Yes, but the IOL power calculation is more complex. We use post-LASIK formulas (Barrett True-K, Haigis-L) and ray-tracing software for higher accuracy. This is exactly the kind of case where a cornea-trained surgeon matters.
