Am I a candidate for ICL?
ICL is the ideal choice for: high myopia (worse than -6D), thin corneas that cannot tolerate LASIK, high astigmatism (Toric ICL), or patients who were turned away from LASIK in the US or Europe. Eligibility: 21–45 years old, prescription stable for at least one year, healthy corneas (no active keratoconus), sufficient anterior chamber depth. A single comprehensive exam confirms candidacy.
How long do I need to stay in Cairo as an international patient?

Plan for a 4–5 day stay total: 1–2 days for pre-op measurements and lens ordering, surgery day, and 1–2 days for the week-1 check before flying home. Can I do both eyes the same day?
Yes — most of Dr. Shaarawy's international patients have both eyes done the same day. Cost-efficient, time-efficient, identical outcomes. We only stage the eyes (one week apart) when there's a specific medical reason: borderline measurements, patient anxiety, or specialty cases. Pricing per eye is the same either way.
Is ICL reversible?
Yes — and this is its key advantage over LASIK. The ICL is designed to remain inside the eye for life, but it can be removed or replaced at any time without permanent damage to the cornea or any other ocular structure. This is especially valuable when cataract develops decades later (the ICL is removed and replaced with a cataract IOL) or if newer technologies emerge.

ICL is generally classified as elective refractive surgery and is rarely covered by insurance — even in the US, UK, or Gulf.
