First S-DMEK in the Arab region · AAO-published

Corneal transplantation — every layer, every approach.

Dr. Ahmed Shaarawy was the first surgeon to perform S-DMEK in Egypt and the broader Arab region. Trained at Devers Eye Institute under Prof. Mark A. Terry — co-developer of modern DMEK and DSAEK. We perform the full keratoplasty spectrum: DMEK and DSAEK for endothelial disease, DALK for stromal disease, and PKP for full-thickness loss. Tissue sourced from internationally certified eye banks (CorneaGen, Saving Sight) with full chain-of-custody documentation.

Why choose us

International standard. Regional access.

First S-DMEK in Egypt and the Arab region

Dr. Shaarawy introduced S-DMEK to the regional standard of care after his fellowship at Devers Eye Institute. The S-stamp prevents tissue mis-orientation — a key safety improvement in DMEK.

AAO-published research and surgical videos

Co-author on AAO 2014 research on DMEK in eyes with prior LASIK. Smart Splash and Graft Exchange DALK techniques both featured in AAO Editors' Choice surgical videos.

Certified eye-bank tissue, 48-hour sourcing

We import tissue from internationally certified eye banks (CorneaGen, Saving Sight) with full HIV/HCV/HBV testing, endothelial cell density reports, and ≤48h delivery from request.

Western-quality outcomes, Egyptian pricing

DMEK in Cairo from $3,000 vs $12,000–$20,000 in Western Europe and $25,000–$40,000 in the United States. Same tissue source, same surgical technique, same instruments.

DALK (Deep Anterior Lamellar Keratoplasty)Anterior stroma replaced; recipient endothelium preserved. Lower rejection than PKP.$2,500 $3,000
PKP (Penetrating Keratoplasty)Full-thickness transplant. Reserved for cases where DALK isn't possible.$2,800 $4,000
